The RAV4’s hybrid versions are equipped with a powertrain that uses this engine in addition to two electric motors for extra oomph.
The RAV4 Prime has a third powertrain option available, the plug-in hybrid, which adds an 18.1 kWh battery.
Here’s a comparison between these three powertrains in terms of power and performance:

Toyota RAV4 Interior
Between the hybrid and the non-hybrid versions, the 2023 Toyota RAV4 is available in 9 different trims. Moreover, it’s also available in two plug-in hybrid versions, the RAV4 Prime.
All this to say that if there’s one thing the Japanese car manufacturer did not forget to give us, it’s a lot of options with this SUV.
However, in all the RAV4 and RAV4 Prime in Canada, you’ll find:
- 8-inch central display
- Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration
- Tilt and telescopic steering wheel
Some trims come instead with a 10.5-inch screen, optional on the Prime.
In terms of audio, the RAV4 comes standard with a 6-speaker sound system, but the Limited (either gas or hybrid) comes with a 11-speaker JBL sound system. This stereo system is optional on the RAV4 Prime.

Toyota RAV4 Towing Capacity and Cargo Volume
For the RAV4, the towing capacity varies among the gas, hybrid and Prime models:
- For the RAV4’s gas model, we’re talking about a 1,499 lb towing capacity.
- The RAV4 Hybrid can tow up to 1,750 lb.
- The RAV4 Prime has a 2,500 lb towing capacity
The 2023 RAV4 Prime is fully adequate to the task, but even the RAV4’s gas model is able to do some work.
In terms of cargo volume, there’s no difference between the gas and hybrid versions of the RAV4. Behind the 2nd row of seats, you’ll find 1,059 L of space, which can be increased to 1,977 L by folding down the rear seats.
On the other hand, the battery takes a little bit more space in the RAV4 Prime. All the same, it still offers 949 L in cargo volume with the seats up. However, battery or not there’s no difference when the seats are folded down.
