People often think that when it comes to a family vehicle, you should definitely choose an SUV or a minivan. This is not the case. The truth is, before making a choice, the most important thing to do is to make a list of your needs. Knowing exactly where those needs are, it’s then possible to make an educated decision for a new vehicle purchase.
Wondering which Toyota to choose in 2021? We’ve got five different looking Toyota models for you to choose from:
- The Toyota Sienna minivan
- The Toyota RAV4 and Highlander SUVs
- Toyota Avalon sedan and Camry hybrid sedan
Here’s how our five flagship products can serve your family.
TOYOTA SIENNA
If you have a large family, you’ll find something to suit your needs in a vehicle like the Sienna. It has room for seven, but more importantly, even with its four seats upright, it still offers 2,129 liters of cargo space.
So if you need to carry a lot of stuff, this is the Sienna for you. As a bonus, thanks to its hybrid configuration, its fuel efficiency is extraordinary, averaging between 7.0 and 7.5 L/100 km.
TOYOTA HIGHLANDER
If your space needs are less than that required for entertaining, then the Highlander is more appropriate. It can accommodate up to eight people. Its capacity increases to 1,370 liters with the third row down, which still allows for a maximum of five people on board.
Also, if you need to do some towing, the Highlander can tow up to 5,000 pounds with the V6 engine under its hood; the limit is 3,500 pounds with the Sienna.
TOYOTA RAV4
The RAV4 is more suited to young families. In the back, two young children will be very comfortable and with a 1,059-liter trunk behind the second row of seats, you’ll have plenty of room to lug everything you need for family activities.
When it comes to towing, the Toyota RAV4 offers you plenty of options. While the base model allows for 1,500 pounds of towing capacity in the rear, the capacity jumps to:
- 1,750 pounds with the hybrid version
- 2,500 pounds with the Prime model
- 3,500 pounds with the Trail model
The latter is better equipped for off-roading, which can be very useful if you’re used to discovering nature with your family on weekends.
And at the pump, you have a champion with the RAV4, especially with one of the hybrid models.
TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID
Your family life may not include incredible weekend hikes where a ton of gear has to be packed into your vehicle. If you have one or two kids, but don’t have a lot of stuff to haul, the Camry sedan is still an attractive alternative, with plenty of room to spare in the back.
As a bonus, the hybrid model, will give you an incredible fuel efficiency around 5.2 L/100 km on average. You can hit the road at a low price...
TOYOTA AVALON
What about the Avalon? It’s hard to imagine a sedan of this size being the ideal family car, but with even more room in the back for big teenagers, as well as a generous trunk, it’s hard to find a more comfortable model. Germain Goyer even compared it to a limousine in an article for Le Guide de l’auto:
“The back seat is comfortable and the legroom is almost reminiscent of a limousine.”
If you spend a lot of time on the road with your family, the Avalon is worth serious consideration.
