2020 Camry VS. 2020 Accord VS. 2020 Sonata

Japanese cars can boast of being built with such precision that they are the most reliable cars in the world. But what's even more spectacular is that Toyota is stepping up the game and offering vehicles that are durable, stylish and high-performance. The 2020 Toyota Camry is no exception, as it's fun to drive and available in several versions.

Manic Toyota in Baie-Comeau on the Côte-Nord is banking on its 2020 Toyota Camry. It tells us about it today by making a comparison with the Honda Accord and the Hyundai Sonata, all mid-size sedans that crisscross Quebec roads.

CAMRY, ACCORD OR SONATA?

From the outset, the 2020 Camry was built on the revolutionary platform of Toyota's New Global Architecture (TNGA). It's lower and wider than previous generations, with a body that's both incisive and sleek, enhanced by a superb finish. While the Honda Accord also offers a sleek and tasteful silhouette, the redesigned Toyota Camry remains even more appealing. The 2020 Hyundai Sonata is without a doubt the mid-size sedan with the least amount of jaw-dropping looks of any of the three cars in the lineup.

Under the hood, the 2020 Camry offers a choice of powertrains based on three engines that are both powerful and fuel-efficient. On gas-powered models, a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine with a maximum output of 203 horsepower offers an ideal combination of power and efficiency. Those looking for more spirited performance will choose the 3.5-litre V6 with a maximum output of 301 horsepower. Regardless of the engine, all gas-powered Camry models are equipped with an 8-speed Direct Shift Automatic Transmission that draws on Toyota's racing tradition to deliver a driving experience that combines responsiveness and efficiency.

On Camry Hybrid models, the advanced, fuel-efficient powertrain is built around a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine, backed by a high-torque electric motor, powerful storage batteries and Toyota's sophisticated energy management system. Toyota's rechargeable hybrid system never needs to be plugged in. It produces 208 net horsepower with excellent fuel efficiency and low emissions. It's paired with a continuously variable transmission with sequential mode.

Sonata has only one 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine that produces 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, far behind the Toyota Camry. As for the Accord, it can count on two gasoline engines that produce 192 and 252 horsepower respectively. As for its hybrid engine, it's equivalent to that of the Camry. All in all, the Camry remains better equipped than its rivals.

While the three mid-size cars offer nice interiors, the Camry's on-board technologies are both impressive and user-friendly. For 2020, each model comes standard with Toyota Connected Services, a 7 or 8-inch touch screen, as well as compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and much more.

Like every Toyota vehicle, the 2020 Camry also offers excellent safety features with many standard features and technologies. For optimum peace of mind on the road, every Camry comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense™, a suite of active safety technologies that enhance driver skills to help reduce the risk of collision and help drivers stay in their lane and see better at night.

In short, if we had to choose among the three vehicles featured in this blog, our choice would, of course, be the Toyota Camry. It's reliable, high-performance, powerful and user-friendly. It offers more than its rivals and is more popular in Quebec and Canada than the Accord or the Sonata. Let's go further: "Le Guide de l’auto 2020" ranks it first with a score of 86% versus 82% for the Honda Accord and 81% for the Hyundai Sonata. The logical choice is the 2020 Camry, period.
